Consider/Approve Extended Contract Program Proposal for the 2009 – 2010 School Year

Background Information:

Our Extended Contract Program Proposal for the 2009 – 2010 school year is attached. The program must have Board approval annually. The total amount allocated to our System by the State for the 2009 – 2010 school year is $66,200, down approximately $40,000 from the previous school year. In addition, all extended contract allocations for the current school year are being funded by the State through the use of Federal stimulus funds. All activities within the proposal represent the most effective and efficient use of our extended contract resources in meeting the highest priority needs of our students. Activities funded with extended contract funds include remediation, intervention, and tutoring. Although the report is due to the State by September 1, 2009, we have notified the appropriate officials that we did not receive the program proposal documents in time for our August meeting and we informed them of the date of our September meeting. State officials have responded that the proposal will not be considered late due to the timing of the release of the paperwork by the State and the scheduled dates of our Board meetings.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the Extended Contract Program Proposal for the 2009 – 2010 school year.
